Biography
My name is Hadiqa Rehan. I am 17 years old and go to Michigan Islamic Academy. I was born in a Muslim family and have been around other Muslims since I was young. I have gone to Saturday, Sunday and summer school to my local mosque. I attended a Muslim elementary and middle school and now attend a Muslim high school. All these years in an extraordinarily religious environment has taught me to be kind and generous to others, especially to those who are in need of a helping hand. My local mosque hosts monthly fundraising dinners and clothing drive donations for the less fortunate that I and my family partake in. My high school hosts multiple community service projects that go on in the year that I helped promote and participated in because I was in the National Honor Society. For example, sponsoring orphans, paying for “care packages” for Syrian refugees, raising holiday funds in poor areas like Nepal, feeding the children of Haiti after the disastrous earthquake, providing wheelchairs, water wells in Africa, and supplying back to school items for children in the Middle East. If there was one thing I would continue doing then it would be helping other people, similar to what I did for the National Honor Society. This would including raising awareness and funds for diseases such as cancer, for persecution such as refugees from the Middle East, etc. I feel this is important because these people are in dire need of help and people who have been blessed with the abilities and capabilities are under an obligation to help those who are less fortunate. All of humanity is an extended family, and if we don’t help each other out, who will?
The reason I chose this area of research was because I was interested in computer sciences and coding. I was first inspired to learn more about this field by my maternal uncle. He has a PhD in computer science and he works for Microsoft. He is also the first person in our family to get a PhD. Many people in my family look up to him for inspiration. Another reason I chose this area of research is because our society as a whole now heavily depends on computer technology, and being proficient in this field also guarantees on a job in the future.

Letter to Judges
I am Hadiqa Rehan and I am 18 years old. For my senior project, I decided to do something related to computers and coding. Because this was a community service project, I related my project to something I feel strongly about, and that is helping people in difficult or unfortunate situations. For my project, I planned to program a drone to transport supplies using GPS in locations where traditional roads cannot reach.
Throughout this project, I learned a lot of coding. The main coding language I learned was c++ which was used in some of the demonstration in “the Hour of Code” the school hosted. I also learned just how many people were dying due to starvation and lack of medical utensils in the world. Both these problems could be resolved if humanitarian aid agencies implemented drones to deliver supplies in needed areas.
Lastly, I would like to thank the judges for taking time out of their busy schedules to look at my portfolio and judging my project.
Jazak Allahu Khair,
Hadiqa Rehan
